A teaching plan is a pacing map, not a syllabus. Read properly it tells a learner what should already be covered, what is coming next, and how much time each topic is meant to take.
Each plan is split by term and by week. Open it at the week the school is in now, not at page one.
Everything above the current week should already be covered. Whatever looks unfamiliar there is what to revise first.
Skimming the next topic before it is taught is the cheapest way to follow a lesson properly instead of just copying it down.
Once a term of topics is done, sit the matching past paper under time and mark it honestly against the memo.

No. The curriculum statement says what has to be learned. The teaching plan says when it should be taught. They work together, and the plan is the one that tells you whether a class is on schedule.
Independent schools set their own pacing, but most cover the same content in a broadly similar order. The plan is still a useful benchmark for checking whether a topic should already be done.
